Neuropsychiatrist Physician consultant for diagnostic clarification (for example, in distinguishing psychiatric conditions from early-onset dementia syndromes) and consultant for medication management of more challenging behavioral symptoms seen in dementia. Memory Clinic Medical Social Worker Works closely with the Memory Clinic Team and acts as a consultant to aid in the diagnosis of neurocognitive dysfunction such as dementia, and other neurological conditions that may affect memory. Your neurologist will make recommendations on additional diagnostic testing and treatments. Neuropsychologist A Neuropsychologist is not a physician but a specialist who performs neuropsychological and neurocognitive testing to help understand one’s cognitive profile. This in-depth cognitive evaluation can help clarify a dementia diagnosis, especially in difficult cases. Neurologist Works closely with the Memory Clinic Team and acts as a consultant to aid in the diagnosis of neurocognitive dysfunction such as dementia, and other neurological conditions that may affect memory. Your neurologist will make recommendations on additional diagnostic testing and treatments. Primary Physician/Geriatrician Your primary care physician is your health care co-pilot. They deliver your overall care for non-dementia-related conditions, and partner with our Memory clinic. You generally start with an initial evaluation with your primary physician for a brief cognitive assessment, review reversible conditions that may affect cognitive functions, review high-risk medications that affect cognitive functions, & order initial labs and possibly brain imaging.
